UniQuest, the main commercialisation company of The University of Queensland (UQ) is celebrating two awards from the Business Higher Education Round Table (B/HERT) 2014 Awards dinner in Melbourne on Thursday 20 November 2014.

The Latch-On program, an evidence based program initiated at UQ to assist young adults with an intellectual disability, received an honourable mention award in the Best Community Engagement Collaboration category.

UniQuest then received an honourable mention award in the Best Entrepreneurial Educator of the Year category for the annual UniQuest Research Commercialisation Workshops.

UniQuest CEO Dr Dean Moss said the awards recognise the outstanding commitment and achievement of the Latch-On team and UniQuest.

“It is especially pleasing to see not only an innovation providing real impact recognised, but the fact that UniQuest also commits to educating the UQ community to the value of commercialisation” Dr Moss said.

“UniQuest would like to extend a special thank you to our Latch-On partners Down Syndrome Ireland and the Endeavour Foundation in Australia.” He said.

“The leading role UniQuest plays for UQ in commercially translating research excellence has resulted in excess $10 billion of sales and thousands of healthier and enriched lives” Dr Moss said.

“It is a privilege for UniQuest to be able to share our learnings from 30 years of business to university researchers and higher degree students through the Research Commercialisation Workshops. We are honoured to be recognised for this effort” Dr Moss said.

The award evening saw 280 representatives from the higher education and business community in attendance at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

The main award of the evening was taken by The Sewer Corrosion and Odour Research (SCORe) Project – Putting Science in Sewers.

The SCORe Project includes the computer modelling tool SeweX that UniQuest is commercialising as a service business.

Amongst the attendees were University Vice-Chancellors, CEO’s, and representatives from leading organisations in business and industry supporting collaborative projects with the tertiary education sector.
