UniQuest, the commercialisation company of The University of Queensland (UQ) has announced that Mr Andrew Morgan, an experienced corporate adviser, has joined its board of directors.

Mr Morgan has over 27 years’ experience in investment banking and private equity, gained in various roles in Australia and the UK.

In 2009, Mr Morgan established Catapult Partners, providing corporate advisory services, investor relations and propriety investment.  Catapult recently entered an exclusive partnership with BTIG, a global investment bank, to leverage its platform and coverage.

Mr Morgan has advised boards and investment committees (private equity sponsors and hedge funds) across a broad range of industries on transactions, investment related matters, and strategic advisory assignments. Prior to establishing Catapult Partners, Mr Morgan worked for Lazard, HSBC Investment Bank and Grant Samuel.

Mr Morgan said he was delighted to be joining the UniQuest board.

“As a UQ alum, having an opportunity to leverage the experience I’ve gained both in Australia and internationally for the benefit of UniQuest and UQ is compelling. Hearing the growth plans UniQuest has developed working with the UQ research community is very exciting and I’m looking forward to contributing,” he said.

UniQuest Chair Mr John Grant said Mr Morgan’s experience both complimented and strengthened the expertise of the existing UniQuest board.

“Andrew’s commercial experience compliments the skills that exist within the current Directors, but his experience across the investment banking and venture capital sectors will be of great value as we continue to pursue our strategic objectives in commercialisation leadership and investment to foster the growth of the UQ start-up ecosystem and create impact globally for UQ,” he said.

“And we will continue to capitalise on opportunities presented through government funding initiatives such as Australia’s Economic Accelerator (AEA) and Trailblazer programs to support this growth.”

Through UniQuest, UQ leads Australia’s Group of Eight universities in key research commercialisation measures, according to the 2022 Survey of Commercialisation Outcomes from Public Research (SCOPR).

UniQuest is 100 per cent owned by The University of Queensland through UQ Holdings.
