  • Are you excited by discovering new drug candidates from cutting edge research for unmet medical needs?

  • Do you have a passion for leading and motivating a team?

  • Are you looking to thrive in a collaborative, supportive environment?

UniQuest is Australia’s leading university-based commercialisation company, managing the intellectual property (IP) of The University of Queensland (UQ).  Working at the interface between industry and researchers, UniQuest identifies, protects, manages and commercialises UQ’s IP, creating impact from the outcomes of research.

UniQuest also manages the Queensland Emory Drug Discovery Initiative (QEDDI) – a world-class small molecule drug discovery and development group dedicated to translating biomedical research into new medicines to deliver improved health benefits. QEDDI’s projects target some of the world’s most challenging health problems, including cancer, inflammatory disorders and neurodegenerative disorders.

UniQuest is currently looking for a Director of Biology to lead and manage the QEDDI biology team and related activities.

The role of Director of Biology will require expertise in leading and managing the biology and pharmacology research and development for QEDDI’s current and expanding small molecule drug discovery pipeline in various disease areas.

Join UniQuest as Director of Biology and you will:
  • Lead and manage the QEDDI biology team to support the translation of target discovery and biology to small molecule drug candidates for commercialisation;
  • Lead the development of relevant in vitro biochemical, cell-based and pharmacological models critical to inform on project progression;
  • Design and manage compound evaluation in clinically relevant disease models and/or in vivo pharmacodynamic readouts to support selection of preclinical development candidates, including the target PK/PD and translational package;
  • Contribute to the safety and toxicological profiling of lead compounds based on an understanding of the target class and therapeutic area;
  • Identify, develop, maintain and manage professional relationships with CROs, consultants and academic researchers in relation to QEDDI projects;
  • Support business development discussions and investment pitches for QEDDI projects;
  • Identify new projects and targets for the QEDDI pipeline.

You will plan, coordinate, and manage biology project activities, milestones, resources, and budgets, including the development of target product profiles.  You will apply your deep understanding of biology, pharmacology and drug discovery and development to progress the QEDDI projects and potential new projects.

This is a great opportunity to join an experienced and enthusiastic team seeking to translate leading research into novel drug candidates with the aim of creating new treatments and therapeutics for unmet diseases in partnership with leading academic researchers and industry partners.

The role is based at QEDDI’s offices and laboratories on The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
