The Role

We are seeking to appoint a Director, Asset Management to lead the management of company assets including spin-outs, existing royalty arrangements and proof-of-concept funding and associated business practices for UniQuest.

Reporting to the Executive Director, IP Commercialisation, the position of Director, Asset Management will lead the management of company assets including spin-outs and existing royalty arrangements to achieve portfolio objectives and lead asset reporting activities. The role will also provide support for the IP Commercialisation group in the selection of appropriate structures and terms for licences and start-up transactions plus the application of its proof-of-concept funding scheme. The successful candidate will need to support UniQuest’s nominated start-up company directors and provide asset reports to the senior management of the company.

Responsibilities

The position of Director, Asset Management, will be responsible to manage spin-out and licenced assets by maintaining a comprehensive picture of value inflection points for each asset and to identify the most favourable exit opportunity having regard to the maximisation of return and UniQuest’s objectives and strategy. The position will provide advice and lead actions to achieve wind-up and manage the process to obtain approvals to exit including making recommendations to the UniQuest senior management.

The position will also lead asset reporting activities to measure the performance, position and value of company assets and the portfolio as a whole. The position will lead quarterly and annual fair value reporting including a company report and fair value assessment of each portfolio asset in collaboration with the CFO.

The position will also support the application of the company’s proof-of-concept funding scheme and is critical in leading the post-deal management and reporting of licence assets in regards to licence milestones, including follow-ups as necessary with licensees.

To be successful in your application, you will need to demonstrate knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Broad technology start-up company knowledge, experience and contacts
    • Tertiary qualifications in a technology field, preferably to post-graduate level
    • Strong and positive relationships with investors and senior executives of portfolio companies 
    • Knowledge of industry trends, mergers and acquisitions and other factors affecting company valuation
    • Expertise understanding of government and industry funding as well as granting bodies and schemes
    • Knowledge of and experience in applying early stage company valuation techniques and ability to forecast portfolio company exit returns.
  • Technology commercialisation knowledge and experience
    • Start-up and/or licence experience
    • Experience in evaluating technologies from technology, commercial, IP and market perspective
    • Knowledge of typical commercial terms in technology commercialisation agreements and company documents such as shareholder and subscription agreements, and experience in negotiating such terms
    • Experience in intellectual property management and the IP prosecution process.
  • University knowledge
    • Sound understanding of university research management and university funding systems

The ideal candidate will have experience in managing and developing commercial opportunities and preferably be an AICD graduate. Along with excellent written, oral communication, report writing and document presentation skills, the ideal candidate will have a proven track record of meeting challenging timelines.
